Sadly I've heard this exact sentiment many times from women as well. A friend of mines wife mocked him the one time he cried, told him that men don't cry and that her father would never have cried. He's never cried in front of her since, or shown any vulnerability as she attacks him any time he does. He should leave her really, but they have kids so he's reluctant to as he knows she would get the house and full custody, and is afraid of them being raised by her alone as they have three boys.

Of my own experiences, the amount of times when I've been sad or injured and instead of gaining emotional support from a partner, I have found myself having to support them due to the fact that me being injured or down is giving them anxiety, is crazy.

I always put this down to them not being able to cope with someone being hurt, so it was just them on an individual level, but perhaps it is tied more down to the societal fears of male vulnerability. Who knows, but great post, Elicia, definitely makes you think!
