It certainly did that, which helped continue the trend that had begun back with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. In the end, what matters is the everyday person closing gaps on those at the top, the aforementioned results of World War II, the destruction of conventional wealth during it and social policies that followed it, further helped the everyday person do just that.

It's the fact that the ability to close that gap has reversed that has sent everything into reverse.
