I have never thought of it in that way, but I see where you're coming from. Great post, it is certainly true that trying to judge a person's ideological values and how liberal or conservative they are based upon which party they vote for these days, is an absolutely worthless endeavour.

The lines just aren't divided that way any longer, they are more divided by freedom of speech, immigration, sexual reproduction rights, childcare rights, and taxes.

All the data from the FT is showing is that young men and women don't yet understand each other enough to realise just how polar opposites the political parties have become on all of the above matters.

In time, they will learn, just as young men and women always do learn about each other. The question is though, how do we fix how broken the political scene is becoming. Because when young men and women are that polar opposite, it tells you not that young men and women are broken, but that politics is.
