I didn't mind the link to the Emperor, after the first film was basically a rehash of a New Hope, made sense to keep with that! Didn't mind him being reincarnated either, after all, all the Jedi come back from the dead so why not the Emperor!

Though I admit, it may have been better to just be blatant with it rather than attempting to turn it into a big reveal, which could never match the reveal of Darth Vader as Luke's father! But for me the principle of that part of the story worked well enough, it was just a shame they did not decide in the beginning and be consistent with it!

Though to make Rey have no links, I think they would have had to have gone down a totally different direction entirely with the whole saga, as it felt like she was being set up in the beginning to be linked to a big character! In truth, it felt like in the beginning they sort of wanted to link her to someone, but were unsure whether to commit to it, backtracked, then reverted back to the original plan.

Regarding Luke, my problem is not Luke being momentarily tempted by the dark side, but I just cannot fathom the character that has been built up in the original trilogy, ever, under any circumstances, pulling a lightsaber on a sleeping child, least of all his sleeping nephew.

It just makes no sense from a character perspective, and it is totally inconsistent with the character that has been built up – my view anyway ha ha. For him to do that, they would have to come up with some unbelievably good explanation which they just didn't. And in truth I'm not sure one could exist. Again though, just my take ha ha!

Glad we agree on the third point! And thanks for reading! Much appreciated as ever :-)
