When Blake Edwards filmed the 1971 western The Wild Rovers, he gave Ryan O'Neal a more realistic derby to wear. But when MGM head James Aubrey saw the footage, he insisted that it be replaced with a more conventional cowboy hat, otherwise he'd close down the production!
