Great post, Elicia, I'll add something else to what is holding boys back, it's the fact that everywhere they look boys are portrayed as stupid and not that bright. The dimwitted man has become so mainstream that even clever men these days are portrayed as stupid, like in the Big Bang Theory.

It's a real problem that the majority of male role models these days both in films, movies, TV, popular culture, are all portrayed as being dim. This sells the message that being dim and not that bright is cool, and boys are mostly dim and not that bright which makes them cool.

Except it doesn’t, it makes them struggle to get jobs and then, through their struggle to get jobs, as you say, it makes them struggle to get relationships.
